Bridalwear show

Our job comes with many perks. Helping lovely brides find their dream bridal gown is right at the top of the list but buying trips that take us around the world is definitely in the top 3! This gives us as stylists the first look at the 2020 bridal trends that will enter the market in the coming seasons. Our most recent buying trip to Harrogate was very insightful for this very reason this year!
Recently, we have seen the Meghan Markle effect with unadorned crepe being shown in every collection, but this is officially out! Keep reading below to find out what to expect for 2020 bridal trends in 2020 and 2021 collections!

1. Sparkle…..everywhere!

Wandering from designer to designer, there was definitely a sense of collections being more glittery than ever! We have seen Hayley Paige use layers of star dusted tulle for some time now, but other designers have definitely caught up. For those of you that know us well, you will know that this is very exciting for us as we love a twinkle and a glisten! It definitely made our job of selecting new gowns for the future more difficult!

The most sparkly gown we saw, which definitely had a WOW factor was this stunner by Eliza and Ethan. This gown doesn’t just stop with a glittery skirt, it is adorned from top to bottom with crystals, 3D flowers and pearls to make even more of an impact! We love bridalwear that bring a little extra to a bride’s bridal look, and can’t wait to have this beauty in store for a trunk show in 2020!

If Eliza and Ethan’s sparkly number was too much, then how about these? A little odd as we do not carry these designers, but they are to nice not to show you!

Now for a gown that is on it’s way to us! This is Elsa from the 2021 Eddy K Sky Collection! We fell in love with her before she was even worn by the model because the sparkle and embellishment on this gown is mesmerising! We have named her Elsa due to also coming in a Platinum colour, which would be perfect for a Winter wedding where you can be your very own Ice Queen! Will arrive in store early 2020.

Accessories

The glitter and sparkle wasn’t just restricted to the bridalwear! It was also seen on a lot on shoes and accessories. Our very own ‘Glimmer’ veil is now in stock and ready to be tried on with our glamourous gowns. We think this could be the perfect accompaniment to a plainer gown for the bride who wants some sparkle, but necessarily on the gown.

We also saw sparkle everywhere on bridal shoes! Check out Anna by The Perfect bridal Company. This shoe is right in line with the brief brides set for us in bridal shoes…small block heel, not too high, and comfortable. But these bring a bit of glamour with them too! And wouldn’t they look great on a night too meaning you won’t just wear these once!

2. Ball gowns are back!

Not only ballgowns but huge princess ballgowns! Don’t be afraid to try the huge skirts ladies! They may just be the type of dress for you!

Take Belle by Eliza and Ethan. Not only does she have a huge skirt, but she also features the flattering off the shoulder neckline that brides are loving at the moment. Matched with her huge train and 3D flower adornment, she is one hell of a striking gown!

3. A nod to the 1920’s.

For those of you who know about the boutique and my vision for it, you will know this one also excites me a lot! We have always carried a small number of gowns and accessories that fit our Gatsby theme, but this will become much easier. For those of you that haven’t visited, one of our favourites is Ariel for her lace patterning, and April is a very chic nod to the 1920’s with her glistening beading!

We saw lots of beaded tassels, 1920 style patterns and feathers at every angle! Left is Dando of London, right is one of our favourites Eliza Jane Howell who we would love to stock one day!

We have ordered Jameson by Jennifer Wren because we fell in love with her lace patterning which is reminiscent of the 1920’s. With the spaghetti straps, and a tulle darts in the skirt, we now anyone loving this era will adore this gown! She will be arriving in the boutique late 2019, early 2020!

If a flapper dress and cloche hats aren’t what you were looking for your bridalwear style (said in jest), then some of the accessories might be the ticket! This feather trimmed veil from Linzi Jay is a soft and fluffy as it looks. It also has the perfect amount of weight so it will hold it’s shape well. If you think we should have this veil in the boutique, please do let us know!

Arianna Tiaras have really pushed their style with their new collection, which largely revolves around pearls and fashion forward items. The Glitz feather head band and pearl birdcage veil are just two of the items we have ordered that fit a 1920’s inspired look perfectly! Will be in the boutique to order by the end of September 2019!

4. Super duper long trains!

We have had many brides very recently say that it is all about the train. These ladies will not be disappointed as the bridalwear we saw on catwalks would compete with Princess Diana’s 25ft one!

The likes of Rachel Allen showcased trains that are beyond extra on the catwalks in Harrogate (see pictures).

But it was Ellis Bridals and Eliza and Ethan that we were excited by.

Arriving next month, Bree is sultry from the front with her fitted cut, but her back is where the action is. Not only long but in a clover shape, this train is as delicate as much as it is show stopping! We know our ladies will love this gown, no matter their venue or theme as it will literally suit all.

Moving back to Eliza and Ethan, the Bianca gown will be arriving in the boutique soon. This gown is clever as it offers a bride options. Shown here as a cape, this tulle layer is detachable so could be used in multiple ways. Firstly it could be as is, as a custom made veil or as we suggest, a detachable train that will literally go on for miles!

5. This one will surprise you….black is back!

This one shocked us too, but having seen the variety out there, we now understand there is very much a place for black in bridal!

Zander by Maggie Sottero was shortlisted as one of the finalists in Wedding Dress of the year for the Bridal Buyer awards (won by our friends Romantica). For it’s sheer WOW we can see why. We particularly like the sleeves and bodice as the black is broken up with the skin tone.

Wedding dress of the year

Seeing the black mixed with nudes and champagnes appeared to be how designers handled such a dark tone. Here are a couple of the gowns we saw. Let us know what you think! Gowns by White Rose and Amare.
